The Upgrade
Getting hired is the easy part. This is everything that happens after.

There is an enormous amount written about how to get the job, and almost nothing about the ten years that follow it.
That is strange, because the part that decides what the job is actually like is not the assessment day. It is which cabin you are assigned to, how quickly you move out of Economy, and whether the people who sit on promotion boards have any idea who you are.
None of that is published. It is learned by being there, or it is not learned at all, and crew who never learn it spend years assuming the roster is random.
It is not random. It is legible once somebody shows you what is being tracked.
Written about, not self-declared

Five of the pieces above are published interviews, shown as they ran. The remaining card is a repost account that carried one — reach rather than an interview.
What is in it
Cabin assignment mechanics — how the roster is actually built and what influences it
Economy to Business to First: what has to be true before a move happens
The Purser and CSV promotion board — what is in the file, and who puts it there
The Inside Track: the Emirates PR team, the World Cup and Champions League details, secondments
The Promotion Readiness Tracker and the Visibility Log
What you are probably thinking
Being good is the entry requirement, not the differentiator. Everybody on your aircraft is good. What separates people is whether the process that decides assignments and promotions can see them.
No. Boards run on headcount and fleet growth as much as on merit, and the same crew member can be an obvious yes one year and a hold the next. What this does is make the process legible.
That is the best time to read it. Most of what decides your third year is set by habits formed in your first.
Who it is for
Crew who are already flying, or about to start, and do not intend to still be in the same cabin in three years.
Who it is not for
Candidates who have not been hired yet. Nothing in here helps you get the job.
What this does not do
It does not get you promoted. Promotion boards run on headcount, fleet growth and internal politics as much as on merit, and the same crew member can be an obvious yes one year and a hold the next. What this does is make the process legible — what is tracked, what the board sees, and which of the things you are doing are worth doing.
